I’ve had something recently taking over my lawn. My lawn is already in bad shape. What do you recommend I do? It seems like we just need to nuke our entire lawn and start over from scratch.
Main questions are , do you have kids, do you have dogs… if no, I’d spray and put pre emergent down , aim for next fall (timing, read bags).
Otherwise just mow it short.

I’d embrace it. It looks cool and low maintenance. Sprinkle some wildflower seed at the edges, perhaps but thats it.

Looks like Long-bristled Smartweed. I have it all over too. I gave up and said, it’s green with some nice pink, I’ll live with it.

I have this exact same in one half of my backyard. What are they? Are they beneficial to the soil. I let them be coz I have pumpkin growing all over that part.
Best part is they’re not a pain to pull out like dandelions. Very easy to pull. I’ll do that in spring.

My lawn looked just like this when I moved in to my rental house. We have a field behind our house so we have grass-burs in the backyard that my dog steps on constantly.
Good news: it’s fixable
Bad news: it takes work and patience
I’ve over two summers, i’ve turned our weed-ridden lawn into 90%+ healthy bermuda just by being consistent with pre-emergent and post-emergent.
What really helped this summer, is I had a TON of dead weeds taking up a ton of lawn space in my lawn, so I just took a rake to my lawn in March.
After the lawn got some rain and fertilizer the bermuda filled in by late June and it looked like a lawn again!
Hardest part for me right now is the grass-burs. This takes multiple seasons to get rid of since the burs germinate in late summer/early fall. This is why pre-emergent in the fall is so important.
I did it all without gutting, seeding, any of that. Just patience and treating the lawn myself. You can do it!
